Art Deco is a style of design that features design, elegance, a sense of optimism and forward movement. At its peak in the 1920s, Art Deco style appeared in everything from art and clothing to architecture and even industry.
Prior to the 2011 earthquake, Dr McKellar’s practice was based at Harley Chambers, one of Christchurch’s finest Art Deco buildings, on Cambridge Terrace.
Inspired by the building, he chose to refurbish his rooms there in Art Deco style. The rooms were a real conversation piece and even featured on national television. Although the Canterbury earthquakes destroyed the building, most of Dr McKellar’s treasures survived and are now enjoyed by the patients and staff at his new practice in Dallas Street, Riccarton.
